UFP Bash NPP For Downplaying Mrs. Charlotte Oseis Appointment

The Communication Director of the United Freedom Party [UFP], Nana Kusi-Poku Listowell has condemned arguments by some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party with regards to Mrs. Charlotte Osei’s appointment as the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission [EC].

Upon her appointment as the new EC boss, Mrs. Charlotte Osei according to NPP’s Gabby Asare Otchere Darko is – “affiliated to the ruling NDC…I am saying that for a fact”.

NPP’s National Youth Organiser, Sammy Awuku was also purported to have said - “She [Mrs. Charlotte Osei] has no track record” - Ursula Owusu Ekuful was opined that – “ Mrs. Charlotte Osei must still contact INEC chair to learn how to conduct proper elections as expect by Ghanaians”.

According to Nana Kusi-Poku Listowell – “Consider that the comments lack some altitude of honesty and information quality that, if a little research had been done by the criticizers they never would have made those observations”.

He noted that, “whether Mrs. Charlotte Osei is affiliated to a political party is so irrelevant to point out as grounds for her not to have had that appointment. In any case, doesn’t Gabby know that the commissioner is entitled to the fundamental human rights and freedoms and can even vote? We believe it is better to discuss her unquestionable credibility instead”.

“We implore Mrs. Charlotte Osei to disregard the suggestions by Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekufful who when she was making that assertion did not make necessary checks to know that Dr. Kwodwo Afari Gyan has been highly spoken of by Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission Of Nigeria (INEC) as he says “he is a shining example of leadership for electoral management bodies...I have benefitted enormously from his experience and wisdom and from his advice,” he added.

Commenting on Sammy Awuku’s allegation, he said – “Sammy Awuku is an example of his own words. We want to highlight that unless one is given an appointment he or she cannot have any experience. Fortunately for Ghanaians, the contrary has happened, the president has made a great appointment by hiring someone with a very fat credentials and high working experience”.

“…We are advising our brothers and sister to desist from politics of dishonesty and insincerity. This can go a long way to help them regain their lost credibility which has been lost due to their bad attitude of been opposition minded politicians”.

Listowell told Peaccefmonline.com that “We the members of the United Front Party and the people of Ghana are much satisfied with the process that lead to the appointment of the new electoral commission chairperson. We believe President John Mahama did his lawful duty in accordance with Article 70 (2) of the constitution of the republic of Ghana by appointing Mrs. Charlotte Osei as new chair of the Electoral Commission”.
