We Would Vote Against B. T. Baba & NDC For Calling Us Occults- Talensi Youth

As a parliamentary candidate preparing for Tuesday’s by-election in Talensi, electorates in the area had expected B.T. Baba to quickly condemn his National Youth Organizer when he alleged that the culture and tradition practiced in the area is similar to occultism.

For this reason, the youth have threatened to teach the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress a lesson by massively voting against him.

In a statement copied to Peacefmonline.com, the group claimed that the NDC has managed to paint them as people who feed on “human heads” and “hearts” for success.

Below is a copy of their statement

YOUTH FOR TONGO TRADITION
RE: OUR TRADITIONS ARE NOT CRIMINAL

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, please accept our profound apologies to you for the heading of our press conference. We know that a rejoinder should be first sent to the media house that publishes a report that one or a group of persons are not satisfied with the content of the story to issue a rejoinder in
that same respect.

Following some publications in some electronic and print media about a tradition that we have held dear for hundreds of years now and for the Ghana Museums and Monuments of Ghana, a suborgan of the United nations Organizations (Under UNESCO) and the Ghana Tourism Authourity to recognize it as a
tourism opportunity should not be criminalised by the ruling government, we thought it wise to respond in this manner.

According to the Ministry of Education, occultism is a criminal offence for which students have to be suspended or sacked and this is no mean an accusation for the national Organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams, to make against his political opponents given the fact that he refused to respect our culture.

Again the NDC has managed through their surrogates in the media to paint us, the people of Baare and the Tongo traditional area in general, that, to respect your traditions and culture irrespective of where you come from makes you look like a depiction of you in a movie where human heads and  hearts are cooked and ate for success. This is how NDC understands our history and traditions.

If Kofi Adams and the NDC see our hills, shrines and traditions as evil, then what will he say about  the Kumasi Fort and Military Museum, Ancient Mosques of the three Northern Regions, Wa Naa’s  Palace, Nareligu Defence Walls ,Gwollu Defence Walls ,Old Navrongo Catholic Cathedral and the Nzulezu Stilt Settlement which are all under the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board?

Ladies and gentlemen of the media it is sad to note that the NDC Parliamentary Candidate in Tuesdays byelections B. T. Baba has not commented on this sad reportage of his own people by the party he represents, we do not know if it is out of malice or ignorance.

In conclusion we the people of Talensi Constituency and Baare, thank the NPP Parliamentary candidate Thomas Duanab Wuni and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Antwi Bosiako, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi for respecting the Ghanaian Culture on our Republic day and wish them all the best and urge the people of this great constituency not to vote for those who disrespect and criminalise our culture.

Thank you.
