The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the leading opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are the main contenders in the July 7 Talensi by-election even though other political parties are in the contest aiming to clinch the seat from the NPP.
NDC’s candidate, Mr. B.T. Baba, 67, a retired Deputy Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service has been tipped to win the seat but NPP’s candidate, Mr. Thomas Pearson Wuni, a 51-year-old accountant at the Nsawam Government Hospital is very optimistic of retaining the seat for the elephant fraternity.
However, the Communication Director of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Kusi-Poku Listowell has noted that even though his party was not interested in the Talensi seat, they endorse NDC’s B.T Baba to win the seat.
According to him, B.T Baba – “is much popular, loved by all in the Constituency and above all more than capable to achieve what the UFP aims at achieving for our brothers and sisters in Talensi hence our fervent endorsement. His message of development, peace and unity is acceptable to the electorates here”.
“UFP in all sincerity had a candidate whom we saw as though tough, we weren't convinced she was going to make us see the victory that we were looking forward to having. Moreover as a political party that does not believe in the word opposition, we quickly looked out for the candidates that will better serve the people of Talensi and we are decidedly settled on the NDC’s Mr. B. T. Baba,” he said on a statement.

We in the united front party wish to state two clear issues in this statement with regards to upcoming Talensi by-election as we are here;
1. Our endorsement to Mr. B T. Baba. 2. The politics of lies, deception, and dishonesty.
First of all, UFP in all sincerity had a candidate whom we saw as though tough, we weren't convinced she was going to make us see the victory that we were looking forward to having. Moreover as a political party that does not believe in the word OPPOSITION, we quickly looked out for the candidates that will better serve the people of Talensi and we are decidedly settled on the NDC’s Mr. B. T. Baba who we believe is a much popular, loved by all in the Constituency and above all more than capable to achieve what the UFP aims at achieving for our brothers and sisters in Talensi hence our fervent endorsement. His message of development, peace and unity is acceptable to the electorates here.
We were here when the NPP had a deceitful, dishonest and shocking press conference on the Talensi By-Election aiming at preparing the minds of their supporters, knowing very well that defeat is predictably unavoidable to them. In fact being here on the grounds what we could notice is as ‘bad loser’ is part of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo/ NPP strategy of not wanting to ever accept defeat after every election when he is flag bearer of NPP, that is why the NPP, led by Freddy Blay, is deliberately crying foul knowing that defeat is starring them in the face.
Passionately we are not happy with the trend the NPP is going by always bastardizing our state institutions that are doing their lawful duties rightly. In their press statementthey make mention of the some biases against them by both the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service. In fact, we are all here i.e. UFP, CPP, GFP, NDC, PNC, PPP not one of their allegations is credible. We are calling on the general public to treat the press statement of the NPP especially diabolical Freddie Blay and his boys with the greatest contempt it deserves.
As a matter of fact, our friends in the other political parties participating in the primaries have called for reinforcements from other Regions and the messages from these persons are also invigorating the victory of our learned brother B.T Baba. A typical case in point is the coming of the Central Regional NDC Chairman, Mr. Allotey Jacobs to Talensi to remind the electorates of the tribal “resources” comment of Osafo Marfo towards them and preaching the President John Mahama message of Development, has been a below the belt for the NPP whose Ashanti Regional Chairman- Wunntumi is busily practicing occultism here and lying on radio stations to cover up.
Furthermore, despite the fact that stalwarts National Executives of NDC, CPP, GFP, UFP, PNC,PPP have been on the grounds campaigning, the NPP have banished their National Chairman and General Secretary from stepping their feet here. And the fact is their chairman is a native of the land of Upper East. So if the NPP cannot manage their own party they do not have any reason to blame their inefficiencies on the state institutions as it has been their habits.
We want to admonish that Politics of Deceit, Lies, Insincerity and Hypocrisy by our “OPPOSITION” minded brothers and sisters in the NPP under the leadership of Nana Akuffo Addo to desist from that since it does not help the growth of our democracy as a nation. In all their accusations against the EC and The Police with respect to the Talensi By-Elections is a testimony that wicked and vile propaganda can't help them again.
We end here and hope that Even at this holy period where our brothers and sisters Muslims are fasting and praying to Allah and Christians are also praying, we are with high optimism that close of day Tuesday, 7 July,2015 Jehovah Nissi/Allah shall crown NDCs B. T. Baba as the elected MP for the good people of Talensi.
