Court Adjourns Kofi Jumahs Case Again

For the third time, the case involving a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, and his campaign coordinator, Mr Oscar Riches, has been adjourned.

This follows the failure of the Attorney-General’s (A-G’s) Department to give its advice on the case.

A State Attorney, Mr Emmanuel Otoo Boison, who has now taken over the prosecution of the case from the police, pleaded with the court for a short adjournment to allow the A-G to study the docket to offer its advice.

He told the court that “the docket only landed on my table this morning and we need some time to study the case”.
Adjournment

Mr Boison pleaded with the court to give a short adjournment, as the Deputy Director of Prosecutions had assured him that the advice would be ready on Thursday.

Counsel for the accused persons, led by Mr Appeah Twumasi Ankrah, did not oppose the application for adjournment and, consequently, the court, presided over by Mrs Afia Adu-Amankwah, adjourned the case to July 9, 2015.
Petition

At the last hearing, the accused persons petitioned the A-G to take over the case and advise the police on whether to go ahead with the prosecution or not.
Charges

Jumah and Riches are standing trial for causing damage to a photo album belonging to the Electoral Commission and resisting lawful arrest, respectively.

They were arrested on June 13, 2015 during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary at Asokwa.
