The Comoros Islands have requested the assistance of Ghana to develop football in their efforts to attain international football status.
An excited President of the Comoros, Dr. Ikililou Dhoinine made this request when Ghana officially assigned an ambassador to the Southern African country for the first time over the weekend.
This is the first time a Ghanaian High Commissioner has presented his credential to the Comoros.
Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa and concurrently accredited to five other countries, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, presented his credentials to the President of the Comoros at a colourful ceremony in the capital city of Moroni.
The other four countries are Mauritius, Seychelles, Lesotho and Swaziland. Mr Ahwoi is based in Pretoria, South Africa.
Dr Dhoinine commended Ghana for sending an ambassador to that country for the first time and expressed the hope that this would mark the beginning of a greater mutual relationship.
Another area that the President mentioned was soccer, where he believed Ghanaian expertise could be brought to bear on the island to identify talents and groom them to emulate Ghana’s high credentials in world soccer.
Mr Ahwoi described the island as a green field terrain awaiting exploitation and urged the Ghanaian private sector to take up the opportunity and extend their businesses and investments to the island and tap the great potentials that abound.
The request by the Comoros President will open the door for Ghanaian coaches to travel to the Southern African country to train their players.
