Winning Talensi Does Not Mean NDC Will Win 2016 - Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has cautioned his party not to see the 2016 elections as a cool chop following their victory in Talensi.

According to him, the victory will be meaningless if the Mahama-led administration is not able to end the power crisis popularly known as dumsor and the crippling socio-economic conditions before 2016.

The NDC recaptured the Talensi parliamentary seat after its candidate Benson Tongo Baba won with more than 10 thousand votes beating seven other contestants.

He polled 10,366 votes to beat his closest contenders- Thomas Duanab of the opposition New Patriotic Party and Michael Namail Teng of the People's National Convention (PNC).

Duanab polled 6,845 and was neck-to-neck with the PNC candidate who also polled 6,836 in an election that saw five other candidates from the smaller parties poll just a handful of votes.

In spite of this massive win, Koku Anyidoho said the victory should be a yardstick for the NDC to work hard.

“Just winning Talensi by-election does not mean NDC will win 2016 if we are not able to end dumsor and solve the economic crisis. We still have a lot of work to do” he stated on Oman FM Wednesday.

The Deputy General Secretary cautioned government not to be complacent but work assiduously and bring some respite to the citizenry.

Koku Anydoho also called on party members to bury their differences, stay united and not renege in their efforts in propagating the good works of the Mahama-led NDC for a landslide victory in 2016.
