TIKA Renovates Achimota School Biology Laboratory

Calls by the Achimota Senior High School on the Turkish embassy in Ghana to help refurbish their biology laboratory has been positively responded to.

A humanitarian organization from Turkey, TIKA, full name -Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency [TIKA] has handed over a revamped science laboratory to the authorities of the Achimota Senior High School in a short ceremony in Accra.

TIKA spent a whooping amount of $30,000 to refurnish the laboratory which will improve the teaching of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Agricultural Science in the school – as well as quality science practical lessons.

Headmistress of the school, Mrs Beatrice Adom expressed gratitude to TIKA for the gesture during the handing over ceremony.

According to her, the total overhauling of the laboratory will go a long way to help the school –“The laboratory was in a deplorable state but the school was financially challenged to buy enough equipment to stock the laboratory, hence teaching was done theoretically”.

She further noted that, education in the 21st century had become science-driven, hence the new apparatus will make tuition relevant.

Also, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Mrs Felicia Boakye-Yiadom, much-admired the agency for its vast support to improving science education in the school – adding that, government is also doing its best to provide needed schools with such equipment.

Donors, TIKA representative, Mehmet Yazgan noted that their outfit had always support education worldwide – TIKA had supported Ghana in the health sector over the years.
