Alliance Vital To Bring Development Asanga

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Mr Rex Asanga, has challenged Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Upper East Region to form a strong alliance to facilitate rapid development in deprived communities in the region.

He expressed regret that a good number of residents in the region were still living in abject poverty when they had personalities who were representing them in Parliament.

Mr Asanga, a 57-year-old development worker, won the just-ended NPP primaries in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency by polling 320 votes to beat two other contenders, Messrs Joseph Atura and Rashid Agana, who had 238 and 13 votes respectively.
Projects initiated

During a tour of some of the projects he has initiated for residents in the Sumbrungu and Bongo areas, Mr Asanga pointed out that he stood tall among his colleagues and entreated the electorate to vote for him come 2016.

"I have the connections to raise funds and that is why you see these development projects which I have initiated for the people; if given the nod as an MP, I will bring more of such projects to make people happy," he stated.

He noted that over the years, apart from feeding poor people on a daily basis, he had been able to liaise with some partners in Holland to build small houses for the poor who were made homeless as a result of the floods in 2007.

According to him, he was able to help build 18 houses in Sumbrungu and 15 houses in Bongo for poor residents who were not able to reconstruct their houses after the 2007 floods. Each house cost GH¢7,600.

"I have a passion for development and I hate to see people suffering. That is why I try my best to help people in any capacity I find myself, but I know if I become an MP I will serve my people more than I am doing right now," he noted.

Mr Asanga said he was also instrumental in helping to build the solar-powered Dazongo Junior High School to halt the high school dropout rate among primary six pupils in the Sumbrungu area. The school was supported by the Stitching Amsterdam Bolgatanga Foundation.
