Dumsor Catches Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama was on Friday confronted with the raw hardship that Ghanaians are facing when electricity supply went off in the middle of funeral service that the president was attending.

The sudden power outage caused cries of ‘dumsor President’ dumsor president’ in the crowd of mourners at the church service.

The president however kept his cool in the face of the taunts.

The occasion was on Friday, 10th of July 2015 and the President was attending the funeral of an old lady called Yaa Twenewaa at the Presbyterian Church, Sunyani Cathedral in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The deceased was the mother of one Sam Bennett, a well-known Sunyani-based businessman. According to some members of the church, the president in the company of several party big shots entered the church auditorium at a time when the Reverend Minister was preaching the sermon, so as courtesy demands, he paused to enable the president and his entourage settle down. Just as they were about to settle down, the electricity supply to the church went off, (which was attributed to the current load shedding, popularly called Dumsor. The congregants in a bid to register their frustrations on the president with regard to the load-shedding in the country, which has rendered so many workers unemployed and has crippled many businesses, started chanting “Dumsor President” “Dumsor president” “Dumsor President.”

In the midst of the shouts of “Dumsor President” the president remained silent and did not utter a word, while the reverend minister pleaded with the congregation to stop the shouts to allow the programme to continue. The congregants later ceased the shouts and the programme ended successfully.

It was on returning from this funeral, which was also attended by several NDC bigwigs that the President’s flight had to make an emergency landing at Apatrapa in Kumasi.
