TV License Fee Is Totally RubbishGBC Leadership Will Just Squander The Money

Even key members of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] are complaining bitterly on the yet to resume Television License Fees which was announced by the National Media Commission [NMC].

According to the Communications Officer of the ruling NDC, Solomon Nkansah, the idea to collect TV license fee is “totally rubbish”.

He explained that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation [GBC] don’t worth the license fee – “Over the years they [GBC] have performed badly compared to privately owned television stations. Why should we collect monies for them…for what?”

The Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere on July 6 announced that “the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) would from August resume the collection of Television License Fees to ensure that it is better placed financially to fulfill its mandate as a public broadcaster.”

The Director-General of GBC, Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd) has further explained the decision was made because GBC has been unable to deliver quality service due to poor funding.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s "Ghana Mo ntie" morning show, unhappy Solomon accused management of the state owned media of disbursing funds allocated for daily running of the house - “We will not pay any money to them for their management to squander it. No way”

He further accused without explanation that – “IMF [International Monetary Fund] is in Ghana because of GBC and their bad performance”.
