Yamoah Ponkoh Is A Notorious Thief - NDC Chairman

The Troubles of sacked MCE for Ejisu/Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, seem far from over.

A few days after Yamoah Ponkoh left office, the NDC Chairman for Ejisu constituency, Eugene Agyarko, labelled him a notorious thief in the class of the famous convicted armed robber ‘Attaa Ayi.’

“Yamoah Ponkoh is a thief; he is just like Attaa Ayi. It is an open secret in the municipality that Yamoah Ponkoh is the thief at the assembly,” the NDC chairman, who was angry and panting for breath, stated during an interview on Nhyira Fm’s programme, ‘Ekuroyimunsem’, hosted by Kofi Asante.

Yamoah Ponkoh had on the same programme accused Eugene Agyarko, who is the Zoomlion Municipal Coordinator for Ejisu, of indulging in fraudulent activities which some time ago landed the NDC constituency chairman in trouble with the police.

Mr Agyarko, who was called into the show, reacted angrily and spilled the beans on alleged corruption and thievery at the assembly.

He flatly debunked the allegations levelled against him by the sacked MCE, saying: “You, Yamoah Ponkoh, are accusing me of being a thief; you are the worse thief and you know it.”

The NDC chairman then vowed to expose some of the rot perpetrated by Yamoah Ponkoh during his days as the MCE of the area, alleging that the dismissed MCE, at a point, wickedly kept NADMO goods which were supposed to be distributed to people who had been hit by a disaster in the area.

“Wicked man,” he said, referring to Yamoah Ponkoh; and added, “You kept roofing sheets and other items from NADMO which were supposed to be distributed to people in the area whose houses were hit by disaster. You even gave the rice which was meant for the people to your fowls.”

The NDC chairman stated categorically that “Yamoah Ponkoh is more than Attaa Ayi,” claiming that the outgoing MCE’s corrupt deeds were clearly on the walls all over Ejisu. He expressed happiness that Ponkoh had finally been sacked from office.

Mr Agyarko also expressed doubt as to whether Yamoah Ponkoh was a true NDC member, asking the MCE to state in public whether he had ever contributed anything to help the party win elections before, and adding that Yamoah Ponkoh joined the NDC recently just to better his stomach.

He said the entire NDC membership at Ejisu/Juaben was happy that finally Yamoah Ponkoh, who brought so much trouble in the constituency, had been sacked from office, commending the President for saving the constituency from its troubles.

Reacting to the allegations, Yamoah Ponkoh flatly denied that he created trouble for the party in the municipality and therefore the entire party was happy that he had left office. “I have the full support of the NDC members at Ejisu. Just a few disgruntled ones are making noise.”

He also denied keeping NADMO goods meant for disaster victims, alleging that the NDC chairman only wanted him (Yamoah Ponkoh) to be sacked from office so that he (Agyarko) could offer the Ejisu/Juaben MCE position for sale to a prospective buyer.

Whatsapp Dismissal

Yamoah Ponkoh was recently relieved of his position and got to know about it through whatsapp amidst jubilation by residents.

“I have the letter on my mobile phone, even though I am yet to see the hard copy which was sent to me. My wife who is living abroad saw it on social media so she whatsapped it to me,” he told a radio station.

He claimed the person who leaked his dismissal letter was an assembly staff, because the letter conveying his dismissal was received and stamped at the assembly’s registry.
