NDC Youth Want Party To Intervene In AMA Demolitions

A group calling itself the Agbogbloshie NDC Youth Wing is calling on national executives of the National Democratic Congress to condemn the demolitions in the area by Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

They accused the national executives of neglect saying they failed to prevent their homes from being demolished by the AMA.

They contended that the demolition exercise contravenes the principles of the party, which include the pursuit of social justice.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on yesterday, the General Secretary of the group, Leler Martin Awufoe said the failure of the party to intervene in the matter may have negative consequences for them during the 2016 general elections.

He said though they are not against the demolition exercise, what they are contending is “the nature, manner and the timing of the exercise.”

“It is quite unfortunate that since this demolition exercise, the rather vibrant and loud national executives of the great NDC including the likes of indomitable General Secretary, Asiedu Nketia, Maverick National Organiser, Kofi Adams, and the ever great National Youth Organiser, Siid iAbubakar have kept quiet on this issue.”

“Is their deafening silence a confirmation that they are in full support of the inhumane actions of the mayor? This is the time that we expect our national executives to come clear on issues of this nature because contrary to what is perceived the demolition exercise has a very catastrophic effect on the party in all regions especially the three northern regions,” Leler Martin Awufoe cautioned.
