Tema West NPP Primaries Finally Set For July 25

After months of disqualifications, appeals and protests over Carlos Ahenkorah’s candidature in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Tema West constituency, the party has finally settled the issues and scheduled elections for July 25.

This follows a decision by the Appeals Committee to clear Mr Ahenkorah to contest the incumbent Naa Torshie Addo who had earlier sought to get him disqualified because according to her, Mr Ahenkorah did not meet the necessary criteria to contest.

Parliamentary primaries in the constituency was subsequently put on hold following the disagreement over Ahenkorah’s candidature.

Speaking on Eyewitness News however, the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NPP, Nii Adjei clarified that the constituency can now go ahead and organise its primaries since it had “decisively dealt with the issue.”

“As far as the NPP is concerned, there is no longer an issue in the constituency,”Adjei stressed.

Forge ahead

Adjei advised that there is the need for party members to forge ahead and put the challenges that hindered the constituency from organising its primaries behind them.

“The party needs to move forward now as the allegations made in the public domain have come to an end. The NPP prides itself in law abiding members,” Nii Adjei stated.

Asked about the other constituencies with court issues, Nii Adjei said: “the NPP Appeals Committee has submitted their report on the other constituencies and we await a decision on them.”
