Preparatory School Pupil Commits Suicide

A pupil of the Bethel Preparatory School in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District in the Eastern Region, Master Kenneth Olesu, hanged himself on the school premises on Sunday.

According to information gathered by the Daily Graphic, Kenneth, 13, who was a boarder, was the school’s bell boy.

The information indicated that Kenneth performed his duty as a bell boy in the morning and the afternoon during breakfast and lunch.

However, around 6 p.m. when he was supposed to ring the bell for supper, he was nowhere to be found.

The report said the teachers of the school organised a search party and his body was found hanging on the stairs of the first floor of the two-storey building of the school, with a belt around his neck.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Peter Tetteh Kwadjo, and the Housemaster, Mr Peter Padjikena, both reported the incident to the police.

The police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr Albert Delepsa, the Somanya District Police Commander, proceeded to the scene and took measurements and pictures.
The body was then taken to the Atua Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

The police commander could not be reached by the Daily Graphic for his comment, as he was said to have travelled out of Somanya.
