A 28-year-old sandwinner, Kwaku Asiedu, who defiled a 13-year-old imbecile, has been jailed seven years with hard labour by the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Plange Brew.
The facts of the case, according to the prosecution were that both the victim and the convict resided at Akyem Osorase, near Oda.
About 10 a.m. on March 3, 2015, the victim was on her way to fetch water from a nearby stream in the town when Asiedu met her and lured her to an uncompleted building where he defiled her.
A witness who was looking for his children caught Asiedu red-handed and apprehended him.
With the help of the complainant, Asiedu was arrested and sent to the Akyem Achiase police station. The police later escorted him to the Oda Divisional Police Command for further investigations.
In his caution statement, Asiedu denied defiling the victim on the date of his arrest but admitted that he rather had sex with her in December, 2014.
The medical report on the victim also indicated that she had been sexually abused.
On March 5, 2015, Asiedu was charged and put before the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court with the offence of having sexual intercourse with a female imbecile and defilement of child under 16.
He was remanded in police custody for one month after he had pleaded not guilty to the offence.
