Its Now Or Never For Addison, Naa TorshieAs NPP Holds Primaries in 8 Constituencies

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold primaries in eight constituencies on Saturday July 25 2015, a statement issued by the Party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong has said.

The constituencies are Klottey Korle, Tema West, Tema Central, Obom-Domeabra, Okaikoi South. The rest are Kintampo North, juaben and Kwasimintsim.

The statement asked constituency Election Committees within these Constituencies to liaise with the respective District Directors of the Electoral Commission for the selection of appropriate venues and to ensure the smooth conduct of the Primaries.

“All earlier operational directives issued in this regard will be in effect,” the statement said.

Elections in these constituencies were rescheduled to enable the party’s resolve some internal issues. Two more constituencies remain outstanding.

Director of Election for the NPP, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah has indicated that all issues regarding Saturday’s polls have been resolved for a smooth exercise.

“Their work has ended and by the decision, the eight constituencies supposed to go and open the elections,” he told the media.

“It’s still a public election therefore the public election regulation; C.I. 75 is the main law under which we are conducting it.

So all the practices that we observe under any general election is exactly what is going to apply. Except that, this one starts at 8am and ends at 3pm by which the counting will be done,” he added.

The NPP on June 13, held primaries in all the ten regions of the country but exempted about 30 constituencies over outstanding issues with some of the candidates. Nine other constituencies later held their primaries on June 27.

The Korle Klottey contest between Philip Addison and Nii Noi Nortery as well as in the Tema West battle between incumbent Naa Torshie Addo and Carlos Ahenkorah are expected to take the centre stage because of the controversies that have surrounded the two constituencies.
