NDC Chairman In Court...Over Threat To Kill Journalist

The Chairman of the Mpraeso constituency branch of the ruling national Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Salifu, has appeared before the Mpraeso Circuit Court for allegedly threatening to kill a journalist who was investigating him.

The journalist, Isaac Osei, the Hot FM Eastern regional correspondent was investigating an allegation about Mr. Salifu who was said to have allegedly collected GH1, 000.00 from a certain woman whose son had been remanded on narcotic related offence.

He (chairman) was said to have demanded the money to facilitate the immediate release of the accused from remand and prevent him from going to jail.

According to the prosecutor of the case, Chief Inspector C.T. Apronti, the journalist who was performing his legitimate duty by cross-checking his facts, contacted the mother of the accused.

He said, when Mr. Salifu heard of the journalist’s moves, he stormed his house at Kwahu Atibie on the night of July 13, 2015 and threatened to make him (Journalist) crippled before killing him.

The terrified journalist reported the matter to the Mpraeso Police who invited the NDC chairman to the police station for questioning.

After investigations, he was charged before the court. Mr. Salifu pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted GH7, 000.00 bail with one surety.

He is to re-appear on August 11, this year.
