Why Attack Old Woman Akua Donkor? Okudzeto Ablakwa Queries

The John Mahama-led administration came under fire after news emerged that flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor joined President Mahama on his trip to Italy.

Ghanaians who saw pictures of Madam Akua Donkor by the side of the President at the Ghana-Italy Business Forum at the Milan Expo 2015 were enraged at how government will use the tax payers’ money to sponsor Akua Donkor; ‘somebody who is not educated’ to Italy.

However, Deputy Minister of Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disagrees.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji, he expressed his disappointment at how far the debate went as far as Akua Donkor’s trip to Italy was concerned.

I have been very disappointed; so sad; so distressed on the attack on the old woman; she doesn’t speak English…do they speak English in Italy; is English the official language in Italy…so those who are not educated can’t benefit from the tax payers money? Why should we take issue with somebody because we think somebody does not fit into a particular status…this is democracy!” he said.

He made this remark while commenting on the speech given by Dr John Kayode Fayemi, a former Governor of Ekiti State in Nigeria during the 3rd Atta Mills Memorial Lecture.
