Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicated that some NDC constituency executives from Atiwa allegedly assaulted the District Chief Executive of the area, Emmanuel Atta Twum, during a meeting in Koforidua, the regional capital, making him collapse.
His colleague from Kwahu South, Joseph Omari, who went to his rescue, was also purportedly attacked. The meeting was said to have been attended by the Regional Minister, Antwi Boasiako Sekyere; his Deputy, Mavis Ama Frimpong and some regional executives of the NDC and other party gurus.
The meeting, aimed at addressing complaints lodged against some municipal and district chief executives in the region, was held at the regional minister’s residence.
Sources said that Mr Atta Twum was immediately rushed to the Regional Hospital in Koforidua and was later discharged.
DCE for Kwahu South, who had also been hauled to the meeting by his constituency executives, was nearly lynched over what was described as loose talks.
Atta Twum was reported to have sent seven non-executive members to the meeting, incurring the wrath of the party executives from the area.
The embattled Kwahu South DCE, who was furious over actions of the party executives from Atiwa East and West constituencies, accused them of being the cause of the sudden collapse of Atta Twum, adding that he would have gunned them down if he had been in the shoes of his colleague DCE.
The comment by Omari provoked the party executives who manhandled him in an attempt to beat him to pulp, had the security not intervened to whisk him away.
Joseph Omari, who has been suspended by the Mpraeso constituency executives of the NDC over disrespect and malicious publication against the constituency chairman, was at the meeting for the settlement of the protracted dispute between him and the chairman.
DAILY GUIDE’s attempts to speak with the two DCEs proved futile as they failed to pick their phone calls.
Deputy Regional Secretary of the NDC, Francis Annoh-Dompreh, posited: “My brother, this is an internal matter. What interest have you got in this case? I cannot tell you if it’s true or not.”
