Kwadwo Asamoah Suffers Knee Injury

Ghana has been hit with a massive blow after emerging Italy-based midfield star Kwadwo Asamoah suffered a knee injury. The 21-year-old, who was instrumental in the Black Stars assault on Mali and Sudan in June, suffered the setback over the weekend. He was training with his club Udinese when he was taken off with the left knee injury. The skilful player will travel to Barcelona on Monday for analysis before the extent of injury is determined. This means Asamoah is unlikely to be available for the Black Stars when they take on Zambia in London on 12 August in a friendly. If he is ruled out for long he could be unavailable when Ghana takes on Sudan in a World Cup qualifier next month. Asamoah had an impressive debut season for Udinese, which saw him earn a call-up to the Ghana national side. He helped the Zebrette to a seventh place finish in Serie A in 2008-09 and is hoping the club can improve on that next season. Asamoah was part of a formidable three man midfield alongside Gokhan Inler and Gaetano D'Agostino. He made 19 appearances last season, scoring twice in the process.
