Okudjeto Must Mention Wrong People In Govt

Ex-Nyimfahene of the Mfantseman Council in Ashanti, Nana Nanabanyin Ninsin-Imbeah II, has called on Mr. Sam Okudjeto, a former president of the Ghana bar Association (GBA) to name the alleged “wrong people” that have been appointed by the President of Ghana to “certain institutions” of state.

The eminent lawyers reportedly raised concerns at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) workshop on reforming Ghana’s constitutional democracy recently that, the President had appointed some wrong people to key institutions.

But Nana Ninsin-Imbeah II, in reacting to Mr. Okudjeto’s concerns said the President is blameless because he was acting in line with the dictates of the Constitution.

The Ex-Chief said it is unwarranted and very distasteful for the former President of the Ghana Bar Association to have suggested that “the powers of the President in making appointments to some constitutional bodies,” such as the “Electoral Commission and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) should be curtailed.

According to him, Mr. Okudjeto knows very well that, the President of the Republic operates under the 1992 constitution, which has not been amended.

Nana Ninsin-Imbeah II has, therefore, directed the former GBA boss to rather blame those who boycotted the Consultative Assembly that drafted the 1992 Constitution for any lapse that might have informed his concerns.
