A Communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has charged the National security to as a matter of urgency protect all former heads of state in the country.

Agbesi Nutsu’s plea follows the attempted assassination of President Mahama at his church last Sunday.

He said regardless of a person’s status, they need to be given a maximum protection since they have been of great importance to the nation.

“Aside President Mahama and his family, I think other former heads of state in this country should also be given the maximum protection because we can’t afford to lose them to some mentally ill persons” he stated on Adom FM Wednesday.

Charles Antwi, the man who took a locally manufactured gun to President Mahama’s Church was subsequently slapped with a 10 year jail term by an Accra High Court on Tuesday.

Charles, who appeared in court without a lawyer, said he wanted to kill President Mahama to take over his position.

The sentence has generated controversy with some Ghanaians questioning the judge's verdict. While others have described the ruling as too haste, Agbesi Nutsu believed that Charles is not mentally stable since he was able to narrate his plans to the court.

The NDC man bemoaned the security lapses inthe country and therefore urged the security to be more vigilant in their duty.

“I want the security service to make use of their resources and protect President Mahama like Americans do for Obama” he noted.
