NPP MP Primaries: Court Dismisses Korle Klottey Injunction

Now, the New Patriotic Party delegates at the Korle Klottey constituency can vote for their Member of Parliament aspirant for 2016 election – thanks to an Accra High Court ruling.

The court on Thursday dismissed a motion for injunction brought against the NPP to suspend the parliamentary primary at the constituency.

The court explained that the motion if upheld would have burdened the party and hence threw it out, paving the way for the party’s primaries to come off.

Lawyer Philip Addison, an aspiring MP at the constituency is facing a keenly opponent Nii Noi Nortey.

Nii Noi Nortey was alleged to have presented a fake University of Ghana certificate to the party’s Vetting Committee – his attempt rigging compelled some aggrieved people in the constituency to file to stop the election in the court, citing the NPP and Valentino Nii Noi Nortey as first and second defendants respectively.

The plaintiffs - Juliana Briandt, George Attor Williams, Mary Crentsil and three others, want a declaration that Nii Noi Nortey acted fraudulently when he declared and submitted to the NPP that he held a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Political Science degree awarded by the University of Ghana.

Following the ruling, the ball is now in the court of the party to set a date for the election.

According to Kasapa FM - dozens of supporters wearing branded Nii Noi Nortey T-shirts were at the court premises to throw their support behind him – they were full of jubilation after the ruling.
