Secret Meeting: Adjiri-Blankson Heads For Court

Former Mayor of Accra, Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson is fuming with rage over claims he was part of a supposed secret meeting.

Pro government tabloid, the Herald recently reported that he and others including Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Emmanuel Asante and other men of God held a secret meeting at the private residence of former President Kufuor.

Even though the meeting was part of moves to patch the cracks in the largest opposition party in the country, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of which he is member of the Council of Elders, Adjiri Blankson who is currently in London said “I find it absolutely ridiculous that the ‘Herald’ highlighted my name at supposedly ‘secret’ meeting, which was held on 9 July, 2015, thirteen clear days after I had left Ghana.”

In a statement issued from London where he currently is, the former Mayor explained “I travelled on the night of 26 June, 2015 with British Airways to London, arriving in the morning of 27 June, 2015, and have not returned to Ghana since.”

However, he noted that “the fact that a very murky furore has been hatched by the ‘Herald’, and gathering distorted newspaper coverage with twists and turns, I am compelled to come public, which has never been my stock in trade.”

He therefore serving notice to the publisher(s) of the ‘Herald’ that “I shall seek legal advice on my return to Accra shortly.”

That, he said would be his own contribution to help curb what he described as “that insatiable desire by some mischievous media practitioners to defame innocent citizens for no apparent reasons.

Aside the office of former President Kufuor coming out to deny claims by the paper that the meeting was held in secret, the Methodist Bishop who is also the Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC) has denied being part of the meeting as claimed by the Herald paper.

Bishop Emmanuel Asante has equally served notice of his intentions to seek legal redress if they fail to render him an unqualified apology.
