KMA Is Not Charging Monies For Allocation Of Space Mayor To Traders

The Mayor of Kumasi Mr. Kojo Bonsu has paid a working visit to the Kumasi Race Course to interact with traders and also acquaint himself with the challenges they were currently facing at the place.

Accompanied by some officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), the Mayor used the occasion to refute allegations that the Assembly was charging monies for the allocation of spaces to drivers and traders.

“Make sure people who come to you to collect monies for the purpose of allocating spaces, are reported to the Assembly”, he cautioned the traders.

He was emphatic that the traders were mandated to only pay the legal market tolls approved by the Assembly.

Mr. Bonsu stated that, the traders’ relocation to the Race Course was temporary, and that, after completion of the first phase of the Kejetia/Central Market Redevelopment Project, they would be resettled at their former place (Kejetia).

He also assured them of government’s resolve to do what was necessary to expedite the reconstruction of the first phase of the project, which involved the construction of the Kejetia Lorry Terminal.

Mr. Bonsu, who also interacted with the KMA revenue collectors at the Race Course, and inspected the tickets issued to the traders to ascertain whether they were genuine.

This was to ensure that the correct receipts were issued to reduce pilfering to the barest minimum to enhance revenue generation.

He assured the traders that everything possible was being done to ensure their comfort in respect of their trading activities.

They should, therefore, collaborate with the Assembly for the successful execution of the first phase of the project at the Kejetia Lorry Terminal.

The Mayor later inspected the Kejetia Lorry Terminal, where the traders were recently relocated from to the Race Course.

The traders were grateful to the Mayor for the visit and sharing their concerns.
