Presidential staffer, Samuel George Nettey has charged striking doctors not to take their monthly salaries if they have compassion for their patients.

According to him, it is "unconscionable" for the doctors to enjoy their salaries whiles they watch innocent patients suffer in pain. The Ghana Medical Association has declared a nationwide strike after negotiation with government over conditions of service broke down.

The doctors who are only attending to emergency cases are threatening to resign en bloc if their concerns are not addressed.

But Sam George on Asempa FM Friday said, though they have a legitimate claim, the demands by the doctors are not realistic. He explained that, if government decided to meet the demand, it will be a drain on the national coffers.

“Can you imagine what will happen if all public sector workers decide to demand such conditions of service? The doctors should come again,” he stressed.

The presidential staffer maintained that the doctors have no right to demand conditions of service because workers never determine their condition of service for their employer.

Sam George urged the striking doctors to rescind their decision in the interest of the state.
