Fight Over DCOP Kofi Boakye

While the police administration and Council is craving for the presence of Ashanti regional police commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, in Accra for a higher responsibility, the Chiefs and people of Ashanti region are kicking against any possible reassignment of the tough-talking police chief. Our sources in the police administration say, DCOP of Kofi Boakye, who is noted for his strict adherence to duty, resolve to apply the rules without fear or favor and, his determination in clamping down on notorious criminals, including armed robbers, has attracted the attention of the police administration and Council, who intend shipping him from Ghanas second most populous region to Accra. Paradoxically, some activists of the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti regional capital for some time now and, without any rational foundation, have publicly embarked on spirited campaign to have the "Ashtown Boy policemans policeman", transferred from the Ashanti region. However, The aL-hAJJ can confirm that moves by the police administration to redeploy the hardworking Ashanti regional police commander, who has so far won the admiration and respect of many including, President Mahama who paid a courtesy call on him, back to the police headquarters, has nothing to do with the misguided demands of activists of the governing NDC. Signals picked by this paper indicate that DCOP Kofi Boakye's imminent return to Accra could earn him a well-deserved promotion and much bigger role in the police administration. Kofi's dedication and commitment to duty at his present Ashanti region post, despite all the atrocious and cruel treatment meted out to him in previous times, was what may have informed the Chief of Asante-Mampong, and occupant of the silver stool of Asante, to have unequivocally stated that, he together with his colleague chiefs and subjects in Asanteman, will resist any attempt to reassign Kofi Boakye from the region. Reacting to a petition by a group in the ruling NDC party calling for the head of the fine police chief, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II noted Kofi Boakye has done his work devoid of political coloration so we will resist any attempt to resign him. In the midst of the struggle over Kofi Boakye, sources close to him told The aL-hAJJ that the no-nonsense police commander "is prepared to serve his nation in any capacity, at any place and at any time his superiors in the police service would hand him ''. DCOP Kofi Boakye has served in several capacities in the administration. Ashanti region is not his first posthe was in the Greater Accra region, Western region and other parts of the country; so anytime duty calls, he will graciously avail himself to serve Ghana, the source added. As a royal of Apagyafie in the Ashanti Region, and, therefore, a grandson of the Golden Stool, DCOP Kofi Boakye has made great strides as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander since February last year when he assumed duty. He had earlier been the Western Regional Police Commander until his transfer to Kumasi. He had also previously headed the Greater Accra Regional Police Command. Before Kofi Boakye took over the administration of the Western Region Police High Command, he was the Director of Education at the Police Training School in Accra. Mr. Nathan Kofi Boakye is a lawyer by profession, and was promoted to the rank of DCOP in August 2012. He came out with First Class Honours on graduation as a lawyer, notably in Criminal Law and Civil or Family Law. The daredevil that he is, Kofi Boakye has a penchant for clamping down on criminals, and has vowed to bring lawlessness to the barest minimum wherever duty calls.
