Mills Prefers Local Textile Industry For Free Uniform

President John Evans Atta Mills has directed the Ministry of Education to continue with its interaction and negotiations with the local textile companies for the procurement of materials for the free school uniforms. The Ministry of Education has over the last five months engaged the local textile companies to determine their capacity and capability to produce the required materials for the uniforms. A statement from the Ministry of Information Monday evening signed by Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said no contract has been awarded to a Chinese company for the supply of the textile material, contrary to media publications early in the day that the contract had been awarded to a Chinese firm. The statement said the National Democratic Congress government remains committed to the promise of revamping the local textile industry and in line with this, the Vice President would on Wednesday chair the next meeting of stakeholders including the, Ministry of Trade and Industry and the local textile manufacturers.
