University Teachers Association of Ghana Declares Strike

The University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG) has declared an indefinite strike over their book and research allowances.

According to the UTAG president, Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe, the decision was taken at a meeting held on Wednesday at the University Of Education, Winneba.

He said government is yet to acknowledge the numerous letters they have written on their 2014/2015 Book & Research Allowance hence the strike.

He continued that they will not take part in any academic work until their demands are met.

UTAG has over the years battled with government over similar demands.

Meanwhile President John Mahama has reiterated his stance that he will not succumb to pressure from labour especially as elections approach and that he will not spend outside the budget, as the currently is on an austerity path to save the economy.
