The Ga State is in King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and Boni Nii Tackie Adaman Latse IIturmoil following the installation of a new Ga Mantse despite an existing one and the public declaration of the new one as illegal by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo.
Mr. Afotey-Agbo described as illegal the purported installation of Dr. Kelvin Tackie Abia as the new Ga Mantse.
The Kingmaker and Dzasetse of the Ga State, Nii Tetteh Kwei II and the Heads and elders of the Ga Paramount Stool Dzaase installed a new Ga Mantse (King) and said this would put to rest the many legal issues surrounding who is fit to occupy the Stool.
The Dzasetse indicated that Dr. Kelvin Nii Tackie Abia is from the Teiko Tsuru ruling house and now installed as King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
The 44-year-old entrepreneur was over the weekend installed chief of the Ga State despite the existence of another chief who was installed in 2009.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister in an interview on TV3’s News at 10 program on Tuesday noted that the Regional Council recognizes only King Adama Latse II as the gazetted King and thus would not tolerate any other illegal king.
Mr. Afotey-Agbo explained that “before one can call himself a chief, he must be accepted by the traditional authorities within the area where that particular person comes from. Then from there, information and documents will be given to the Regional House of Chiefs where they will also approve of whatever nomination done by the traditional council.”
He also warned that he would not tolerate anybody who seeks to create confusion within the region with this issue as Chairman of the Regional Security Council in Greater Accra and advised that those with grievances should use the appropriate channels to resolve the issues.
The Ga Paramount stool has also rejected claims that a new chief has been installed for the Ga Traditional Area saying it “must be treated with the contempt it deserves.”
The Council, through its Secretary, Niinabi Anyah Tackie-Yarboi disassociated itself from the installation and said it only recognizes King Adama Latse II as the Ga Manste.
A statement from the Ga Traditional Council also noted that “the Ga Dzaase wishes to affirm that there is a Ga Mantse in the person of Boni Nii Tackie Adaman Latse II who was installed on the 11th June, 2011, and has been performing his traditional duties to date without any hindrance whatsoever from any quarter,” they added in a statement.
The statement further added that the current Ga Mantse, Boni Nii Tackie Adama Latse II has been gazzated by the National House of Chiefs in the National Register of Chiefs on the 24th April 2015 as a paramount chief and Ga Mantse in succession to the Late Ga Mantse Boni Nii Amugi II.
“The Ga Paramount Stool Dzaase, therefore wishes to assure the general public that there is no cause for alarm and that this year’s Ga Homowo festival will be peacefully celebrated.”
