Veep Amissah-Arthur Attends Suez Inaugural Ceremony

Vice President K. B. Amissah-Arthur is in Cairo, Egypt to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the New Suez Canal, an important maritime route which will significantly cut the travel time of vessels. A statement from the Presidency signed by Mr James Agyenim-Boateng, Presidential Staffer, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said leaders from around the world were attending Thursday�s inauguration. Ahead of the inauguration, Vice President Amissah-Arthur on Thursday held separate meetings in Cairo with the Presidents of Niger and Togo. He also held discussions with President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger, the statement added. �They reviewed the regional peace and security situation as well as the ECOWAS single monetary integration and the benefits to be derived. They also discussed new initiatives to speed up the convergence process.� President Issoufou and President John Mahama are jointly mandated by ECOWAS to supervise the single currency convergence process. Later in another meeting, President Faure Gnassingb� of Togo and Vice President Amissah-Arthur also discussed the political situation in their respective countries, as well as measures to deal with threats to the peace and security of the sub-region. Accompanying Vice President Amissah-Arthur on the trip is the National Security Advisor, Ambassador Baba Kamara.
