Deputy Minister of Power, John Abdulai Jinapor, has urged Ghanaians to help the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to find a lasting solution to the power crisis confronting the country currently.
According to him, the worrying situation must not be left to the government alone.
Instead, he said, all hands must be on deck to help mitigate the worsening energy situation.
Speaking at the 29th biennial conference of the Ghana Science Association (GSA) in Tamale in the Northern region he indicated that, “the application of science and technology is the best alternative to provide source of energy for the growing demand of the country”.
He further urged GSA to do more research on how to work towards alternative source of power.
The minister was optimistic that the outcome of the conference would sensitize policy makers to make better decisions on Ghana’s energy mix.
He however revealed that, Ghanaians would pay more for energy supply when the first power barges arrive from Turkey later this year
The Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS) Prof. Haruna Yakubu on his part faulted Ghanaian scientists for doing little to help the energy crisis in the country.
The conference dubbed, “Harnessing Alternative Sources of Energy for National Development Science and Technology To the Rescue”, is to create a platform for the scientific community and other stakeholders to deliberate on the energy crisis.
