French Ligue 1 giants Lyon have refused to loan centre-half John Mensah to Sunderland, according to reports in France. Lyon-based newspaper Le Progr�s reported on Monday that the Black Cats wanted the Ghana international at the Stadium of Light with an option to buy him next season.
Mensah's stay at the Stade Gerland has been constantly speculated although his agent claims the club are unwilling to sell him. The 26-year-old moved to Lyon last season for 8.4 million euros but suffered a lot injury setbacks and could not replicate his performance at Rennes. English Premier League sides Portsmouth and West Ham have also expresed interest in signing him.
