12 Pupils To 1 Computer At Police School

The pupil-computer ratio of 12 to one at the Police Experimental Primary School in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Region is expected to improve slightly following a donation by a police team.

The group, led by Chief Superintendent Fuseni Mohammed Suraji, donated three sets of computers, a Laser Jet printer and accessories worth GH6, 520 to the school.

Accompanied by Chief Superintendent Comfort Boateng, Superintendent Joseph Obeng Sefa, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kofi Ghampson and Chief Inspector Daniel Gbedzinu, all members of the United Nation Interim Security Force for Abyei, UNISFA, Chief Supt, Mohammed Suraji said the donation was carried out on behalf of the Ghana Police Service, peace keepers and the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command.

“We are donating to build the capacity of Police School children in the area of information and communication technology, ICT, programmes,” Chief Supt, Mohammed Suraji.

Making the presentation DSP Ghampson, said the donation was in line with the police’s corporate social responsibility. However, he urged that the computers be put to good use to enhance effective teaching and learning of ICT.

In an interview with Weekend Sun, DSP Champson revealed that “This is our first time donating but we are hoping, it will continue to support schools, especially police schools like this.”

He added: “We should bear in mind that, not everything should be centralized in Accra.”

Consequently, “We are appealing to all police officers to do the same to other police schools across the country,” he urged, pointing out “it will encourage others to support our schools in terms of teaching and learning materials.”

The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Adjei Bonsu Boateng, thanked the group for the kind gesture, because the computers came at the right time to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT.

He promised to take good care of the computers and the printer too.
“We have about 561 pupils with seven computers and out of the seven only four are functioning. Due to this, 12 pupils sit on one computer at a time,” he disclosed.

“I am pleading with parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to come to our aid because the school is over populated.”
