<<Print>>Executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have now agreed to open their offices after a crunch meeting with the leadership of the party.
Executive members in the 33 constituencies shut down their offices following the arrest of their colleagues from the Mpraeso Constituency who were later remanded into custody for allegedly attacking the District Chief Executive of Kwahu South, Joseph Omari.
In an interview with Citi News Constituency Chairman for Atiwa, Johnson Amoh explained that they agreed to open the offices not only because their colleagues have been released but also because they are hopeful President Mahama will remove DCE they accuse of being recalcitrant.
The five NDC constituency executives for Mpraeso arrested for attacking the District Chief Executive for Kwahu South were on Monday granted bail.
The Police last Thursday took over the Assembly to protect the DC for the area, Joseph Omari, from executives following the spraying of pepper into the eyes of three of them who had thronged the office of the DCE to enquire about a working visit of the Eastern regional minister, Antwi Bosiako-Sekyere, to the constituency.
Constituency Chairmen in all 33 constituencies in the region subsequently withdrew all party services, demanding the release of the five and removal of the DCE from office.
Speaking to Citi News, Constituency Chairman for Atiwa, Johnson Amoh says their services to the party in the region are still on hold until the DCE is removed.
“When the case is dropped and we see our friends are free men then when we see that the DCE, Joseph Omari is also dismissed from office and all other DCEs who have become bad nuts in the Eastern region, especially Atiwa DCE, … they must all follow, else we will not relent our efforts of chasing them,” he said.
The Constituency Chairman, who was of the opinion that the charges leveled against the constituency executives were fraudulent, further expressed his displeasure at comments suggesting that the DCE allegedly required that the executives sought permission before visiting his office.
“If a party man, a foot soldier, leaves his party office to make sure that they have monitored and supervised a good election for us to win the presidency and you tell them when they are coming to your office, they have to seek audience before they visit you?” he lamented.
