If GMA Gives Heed To Gov't Communicators, They Might Simply Quit Their Jobs! - Sammy Awuku

NPP National Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku, has appealed to the Ghana Medical Association to call off their strike and return to work.

Speaking on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Sammy Awuku added his voice to calls on the striking doctors to resume to their offices stressing that the doctors consider the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian citizenry.

"As for the government, if the doctors look at her face; they will resign…because the government is not showing commitment…If doctors listen to government communicators and people who purport to speak for government, they will not return to the consulting room. They should consider Ghanaians because lives are being lost.”

He opined that though the government is finding difficulty to heed the demands of the striking doctors yet, they can meet the needs of foreign doctors, particularly Cuban doctors.

He recounted that the government provide accommodation, allowances and other fringe benefits to the foreign doctors but can hardly concede to the proposal by the Ghana Medical Association over their conditions of service.

“If we can get accommodation for foreign doctors and Cuban doctors, why can’t we get accommodation for our Ghanaian doctors?" he questioned, adding that the striking doctors have lost confidence in the Mahama administration.

“If workers cannot take the word of government to the bank, then government has lost the moral authority to deal with workers because workers don’t trust government as a fair negotiator…"
