We Dont Know When Unpaid Black Stars Bonuses Will Be Paid‏, Says Sports Ministry

Two months after thumping Mauritius 7-1 in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Ghana players are yet to receive their bonuses. Ghanaian authorities are yet to settle bonuses of the national team players two months after they crushed Mauritius 7-1 in the opener of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Also, winning bonuses owed the Black Stars for beating Togo in a friendly match prior the Afcon qualifier is yet to be paid. Spokesperson for the ministry of youth and sports says they are not responsible for the delay. We at the ministry of sports are not responsible for the delay. We have written to the ministry of finance. We dont know why payment is taking much time, Otor Plaha told Ultimate FM in Kumasi on Wednesday. Our job at the sports ministry is to facilitate payment. We dont pay money. So until the finance ministry releases the funds, we cant tell you when the players will be paid, he said. The minister for youth and sports earlier declined to comment on the issue when asked by reporters in Accra. I have nothing to tell you about Black Stars bonuses. Im happy to discuss other numerous issues the ministry is facing, Dr Mustapha Ahmed said. There have been reports the sports ministry is considering a reduction of the teams winning bonuses from $10,000 to $5,000, a move the Ghana Football Association has denied. Ghana will face Rwanda in their next Afcon qualifier in Kigali early September.
