Govt Engaging In Illegality - Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr says he wonders why the Mahama-led government is still negotiating with the leadership of the striking doctors despite claiming that the strike action is illegal.

Pratt speaking on Adom FM said he thinks that the government is also not acting right by negotiating with the striking doctors as the President claims the action is illegal.

“The government is also acting illegally by continuing the negotiation under duress. If government knows that indeed it’s illegal, then why should they go ahead and negotiate with them?,” he queried.

President Mahama described the strike action as ‘senseless’ and ‘illegal’ in an interview on Uniiq FM.

“The labour law states that nobody must negotiate under duress. Even before negotiations begun they declared strike. Nobody must die as a result of an illegal strike. The doctors strike is illegal… The doctors must go back to work while negotiations continue in good faith,” he said.

The comment enforced his earlier claim that he would not spend beyond the dictates of the 2015 budget.

But this claim, the veteran journalist insisted did not also add up accusing the government of also acting illegally if it really deemed the strike as illegal. “If you claim something is illegal, then why are you also negotiating with them…?,” he asked.

He further appealed to the striking doctors to return to the wards since they are losing their credibility in society.
