Man Jailed For Stealing From Grandma

The Winneba District Magistrate�s Court has sentenced a 23-year old man to six months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing the personal belongings of his 91-year grandmother and another relation. Alex Boujah, alias Aboo, an unemployed native of Winneba, pleaded guilty, but begged to explain his action. The court, presided over by Mr. Alexander Oware, granted him his wish, after which he was convicted, and sentenced, in accordance with to his plea. Narrating the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Police Inspector Peter Agbelie said the complainant of the case was Mr. Morrison James, a family member, who lived together with the mother and the grandmother of the accused in the same house at Winneba. He said the accused often visited the mother and the grandmother, but three weeks ago, when he visited the house in the afternoon, he took advantage of the quietness of the house and stole one ceiling fan, a steriliser and two dogs, the property of Mr Ato Koomson, another family member, and a witness in the case. According to the prosecution, the Aboo went to his grandmother�s room and stole one bed sheet, nine assorted cloths, and one Kente cloth from her trunk and went into hiding. Inspector Agbelie stated that on August, 9, at about 2113 hours, the accused was spotted in his hideout at Winneba by the complainant, who arrested him and handed him over to the Police. He said during the investigation, the accused admitted the offence and stated that, he only took away two men�s cloth and one dog and denied the rest of the charges on the charge sheet. He was later arraigned and charged with the offence.
