Kufuor Urges Govt To Reach Out To Striking Doctors

Former President John Kufuor has waded into the impasse between members of the Ghana Medical Association and government, urging the Mahama-led administration to reach out to the physicians. Ghanaian doctors have been on strike for the past two weeks over governments inability to agree on their service conditions. The doctors had threatened to embark on a mass resignation today, Friday August 14 but have rescinded the decision. Their leadership today voted to rather extend their strike for two more weeks instead of resigning. Commenting on the development, the former President told a gathering in Winneba Friday that the government needs to be decorous in dealing with the concerns of the doctors. I must appeal to the government as the pre-eminent leader institution for the entire nation to reach out with evident concern, transparency, decorum and spirit of conciliation in its dialogue and negotiations with the Ghana Medical Association and other public sector employees.
