A middle-aged man, Kwaku Asare believed to be in his 50's has been found dead in a pool of blood at Agyeiwaa Lodge, a suburb of the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The deceased is alleged to have heavily drunk akpeteshie last night and fell asleep. He is believed to have vomited blood throughout the night before he died.
A strong stench emanating from his room was what attracted the residents around who alerted the police.
The police officers from the New Juaben Municipal Police Command and the Criminal Investigative Department later got to the scene to take the body to the morgue after taking inventories of the scene.
Kwabena Nkrumah, roommate of the deceased told the Daily Heritage that the deceased was intoxicated and vomited blood throughout the night, but since doctors are on strike, he decided to go to the drugs store to buy medicine, however, the drugs stores were closed “so I decided to mash Kenkey for him, but that could not save him.”
The New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Richardson Kumeko who was at the crime scene said the police has commenced investigations into the matter, adding that the roommate, Kwabena Nkrumah, has been picked to assist in investigations.
Residents who trooped to the scene said the deceased who hailed from Kumasi, came to stay with a friend to work as a shoemaker. However, he became a habitual drunkard who was always intoxicated.
