50 Robberies At Amanfrom Not True DCOP Yohuno

The Accra Regional Police Command has dispelled robbery rumours that plagued the media over the weekend and yesterday morning that 50 homes were robbed around the Amanfrom enclave.

The story of the robberies, which started Saturday, also detailed that one of the victims was shot in the eye, which also turned out to be false; rather, gun residues which scattered marked the victim’s face.

Dispelling the rumours and stating the facts, the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, stated that per their records and information gathered from the victims on his visit to the scene, only eight rooms were robbed in different locations within the American Farm area.

According to him, the area in question is fast developing and needs police posts; however, those responsible for putting up such structures have failed to do so.

He held that there have been a series of robberies recorded in the area because of the lack of police presence to deter criminals.
“We have appealed to the relevant authorities to assist the growing communities in the area to get security but nothing tangible has been done,” he added.

DCOP Yohuno urged the people to eschew apathy and help themselves in constructing police posts. “Police do not have the resources to build police posts; our responsibility is to provide the men when the posts are erected,” he added.

He assured that patrols will be intensified in the area. The Accra Region Police Commander also seized the opportunity to appeal to residents to form watchdog committees to help them weed out the criminals.

The Accra Region Police Commander also called on the necessary authorities to work on the roads since they are not so accessible.
“Security in this 21st century is a shared responsibility. We work with information; we need you to report suspicious characters to us,” he urged.

DCOP Yohuno cautioned residents to secure their doors properly and forget about beauty and style.

To corroborate the claim, the Accra Region Police took the media to the area to ascertain the facts.

A victim, who narrated her ordeal, stated that they heard gunshots, after which the heard their door being broken down.

According to her, when they tried to fortify the doors from inside to dissuade the robbers from entering, they threatened to shoot them.
“Fearing for our lives, we hid under a table in the room, enabling them to enter,” she said, adding that they later demanded for money and took all their phones.
