<<Print>>Mr Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, has cautioned non royals in the Region to stop parading themselves as chiefs or face prosecution.
He said it was about time that those who paraded themselves as chiefs, even though they have not been recognized and gazetted by the appropriate chieftaincy institutions, were dealt with in accordance with the law.
Mr Afotey Agbo said this on Tuesday when he presented some items worth GH¢26,000 to the Chiefs and people of Kpone towards their Homowo celebration.
He said just as people who impersonate others were persecuted, people who impersonate chiefs in their areas must be dealt with.
“As a chief, you should be recognized, accepted, and endorsed by the people, Traditional Council, Greater Accra House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs”, Mr Afotey Agbo said.
He said gone were the days when dialogue was used to compel those people to desist from such acts, adding that, it was now time for their prosecution to ensure peace and tranquility in the Greater Accra Region.
Mr Afotey Agbo said as the capital of the country, the government was looking at the best way to develop the area and would therefore not tolerate any acts that would destabilize the Region.
On the Homowo celebrations, he urged the people of Kpone to use the festival period to foster peace and unity among themselves.
Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of Kpone, thanked the Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Kpone-Katamanso, for the items and his contribution towards the maintenance of peace in the area.
The items presented included nine bags of sugar, 26 bags of maize, 14 gallons of palm oil, 30 cartons of beer, 30 crates of Guinness, 30 crates of minerals, 14 bottles of whisky, 10 boxes of gin, and 10 boxes of schnapps.
An additional cash amount of GH¢2,000 was presented to the Kpone Traditional Council, and GH¢300 each to the 10 clan houses of Kpone.
