Five Armed Robbers Jailed 10 Years Each

The Akim Oda Divisional Police Command, has appealed to the public to assist the police with accurate information on criminals to help curb their activities The Divisional Command said without that the police would found it difficult to track the nefarious activities of criminals in the area. The appeal was made through the Ghana News Agency by Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Ampofo, Divisional Police Commander when the police put before the Akim Swedru Circuit Court, five arrested armed robbers, who were jailed 10 years each in hard labour. The convicts are Samuel Nyamekye, Moses Agbeko Azulley, Ebenezer Agbeko, Eric Frimpong and Emmanuel Amaning. Azulley was ordered by the court to compensate the victim, Mr Elvis Turkson, a taxi driver with GH₡ 1000. Briefing the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Plange Brew; Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Kwaku Antwi said Nyamekye and accomplices hired the services of Mr Turkson at Oda at about 15:30 hours on August 1. Chief Inspector Antwi said while on their way the convicts tied the driver�s mouth and sent him up into the bush, where they subjected him to severe beatings and bolted with his taxi. Police upon a tip-off the taxi was intercepted and the convicts were arrested, the prosecutor said.
