Court Fines A Steel-Bender For Assaulting Girlfriend

The Winneba District Magistrates� Court has sentenced a 32 year-old steel-bender to a fine of GHC 120.00 for assaulting his girlfriend. Kojo Tetteh, a native of Winneba, pleaded guilty and the court convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him accordingly. The Court also ordered him to compensate the complainant with an amount of GHC 200.00. Prosecution, Police Inspector Peter Agbelie told the court presided over by Mr. Alexander Oware that the complainant in the case is Ms. Emilia Ghartey, also a native of Winneba and a food vendor, whiles the accused Kojo Tetteh lives in the same vicinity with the complainant at Roman Catholic School Area, in Winneba. The prosecution said they had been in a relationship for almost two months. Inspector Agbelie said on August, 9, 2015, at about 0930 hours, the complainant went to town to buy medicine for her child and whilst returning home she met the accused, and without any provocation, the accused pounced on her and subjected her to beatings. He said the complainant reported the matter to the police and she was issued with police medical form to seek treatment at the hospital. The accused was arrested and after investigation he was charged with the offence before the court.
