The topflight game will only return in September but the Caf Executive Committee member sees no default and confirms schedule to be on course. The president of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has moved to clarify issues surrounding the perceived postponement of the Ghana Premier League, stating that the competition is going on as planned. The GFA has come under intense criticism for its decision to put the league on hold with just two rounds of matches to go. Many have called the move �untimely� and described the body as �confused�. However, Nyantakyi, who on Tuesday was re-elected for a third successive term in office, spoke on the latest hullabaloo regarding the local flagship competition after the renewal of his mandate. �The league has not been postponed,� Nyantakyi told the media. �The break in the league is part of the programme for the league, and it happens everywhere in the world. �We decided to break the league in order to play FA Cup matches and other matches.� The Ghana Premier league is set for a three-week break after matchday 28 last Sunday, and is scheduled to resume on September 6. �The league would be played afterwards,� Nyantakyi added. �It is not an unexpected event. It�s in the calendar and so it is not a postponement.� Ashanti Gold are currently on top of the league standing, and are only a win away from claiming their first title in 18 years after opening a four-point lead. Interestingly, barring AshGold and second-placed Aduana Stars, all other club in the sixteen-team league could face possible relegation, with only five points separating third-placed Asante Kotoko and fourteenth-placed Bechem United.
