A radio presenter at Zaa Radio in Tamale in the Northern region has taken swipe at the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Abdul Hannan Gundadoo, for awarding speed ramps contracts to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members.
Musah Abdul Haliq, on his ‘Taxi Driver” show over the weekend faulted the MCE for allowing “unprofessional party elements to carry out shoddy work in the metropolis.”
According to him, the construction of the speed ramps was poorly done as the so-called contractors did not have the technical expertise to do it.
He stressed that the high ramps being constructed often caused accidents and damaged vehicles as well.
He indicated that due to the poor nature of the ramps, they would just last for just a year, consequently creating big pot-holes.
Some of the roads in the metropolis which have the speed ramps, he mentioned, include the Old Hospital-Sagani road, Choggu- Hill Top and Tisheigu to Afajura Mosque stretch.
Mr. Haliq also alleged that the MCE intentionally gave the work to his party members for fear of being antagonised.
“Since he fears to be sacked from office, he carelessly awarded the contracts to party loyalists without taking into account the welfare of the road user,” he intimated.
He therefore charged the MCE to ensure that hawkers on the pavements as well as the taxi terminal at the heart of the central business of Tamale were relocated so as to help ease traffic congestion.
To this end, he called on President Mahama not to be swayed by petitions from the NDC foot soldiers, asking him to treat such petitions with the contempt they deserve.
