The Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM) has called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), to as a matter of urgency, institute strong internal measures to prevent the rampant leakages of examination papers. Sheikh Dr. Amin Bonsu, National Chairman of the Mission said, the increasing leakages and cancellation of examinations at the basic and second cycle levels, posed a major threat to the already deteriorating educational system in the country. He appealed to the leadership of WAEC to find a permanent solution to this precarious situation, which makes students suffer after spending many years in school. He believed that the majority of the blame of these leakages must be laid at the doorsteps of WAEC, since it was the institution which conducted these examinations. Sheikh Dr. Bonsu was speaking at the just-ended Fifth National Youth Conference and swearing-in of national executives of the Ghana Muslim Mission Youth (GMMY), held at Enyan Denkyira in the Central Region on the theme: �Building a Disciplined and Empowered Youth Through Religion.� He further urged the youth to be law-abiding citizens, and lead lives according to the rich Islamic and societal values. He asked them to eschew all forms of immoral and indecent behaviour, including cheating, fornication, gayism and lesbianism, smoking, selfishness, and laziness Alhaji Nabilla Muhammed, Assistant Chief Executive Officer in charge of Finance and Administration at the National Youth Authority, commended the GMMY for unearthing the potentials of Muslim youth towards national development. He urged them to continue supporting the developmental agenda of the nation, and the Ghana Muslim Mission which had already seen them having 115 schools at all levels throughout the nation. Mr. Ismaila Mensah, the New National Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission Youth, said, he and his colleague executives would continue to mobilize young people to play key roles in the developmental agenda of the organization and the nation at large. The four-day conference brought together over 600 Muslim youth who were taken through intensive spiritual, moral, social, professional and personal empowerment. The event was used to raise funds towards the construction of a multi-purpose youth Development Centre at Mankessim in the Central Region, to serve as a meeting point for the youth to undertake various developmental activities. The Centre, upon completion, will have educational, recreational, sporting, hostel and capacity-building facilities, to give holistic development to young people. The Conference was attended by dignitaries including Nana Otibu the sixth, Omanhene of the Enyan - Denkyira Traditional Area, who on behalf of his people, donated a parcel of land to the Ghana Muslim Mission, and Alhaji Yusif Tahiru-Nii Banka, Sariki of Ashalaga who also donated an undisclosed amount of money towards the project.
