Court Adjourns Prez Mahama Gunman Case

An Accra High Court on Friday adjourned the case involving the Republic and Charles Antwi, the man who stormed the President’s church in an attempt to assassinate him.

An Accra Circuit Court had, in an earlier session, presided over by Justice Obiri, sentenced Charles Antwi to 10 years imprisonment for entering President John Dramani Mahama’s church [Assemblies of God] with a gun.

But the Attorney General’s Department is arguing that the Circuit Court judge erred in his judgment.

According to the Attorney General's Department, Charles Antwi was sent to court to be remanded not to be sentenced; which is why they have been compelled to go to court for a retrial.

Hearing has been adjourned to Monday 24th August 2015.

Meanwhile, an application filed by a Legal Practitioner, Francis Sosu, to quash the sentence of Charles Antwi is still pending at the Human Rights Court.

Lawyer Xavier Sosu says they are yet to decide whether to join the A-G or pursue their case differently.
