We Took A Bold Decision To Call Off The Strike - GMA Prez

The Ghana Medical Association on Monday called off its strike action and resume work.

The Association's strike rescission came on the heels of incessant calls from all sectors of the economy on the striking doctors to pick up their medical tools and save the lives of Ghanaians.

Addressing the issue in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", the President of the Association, Dr. Kwabena Adusei-Poku intimated that the doctors agreed to call off the strike after carefully considering the several pleas of Ghanaians.

According to him, the Association had to take a bold decision despite the government's inability to enhance their conditions of service.

He further provided the rationale for the doctors' strike, indicating that the doctors' always get desired results when they embark on such action.

To him, strikes have since become the doctors' leverage for their demands to be met by the government.

He however noted that though the doctors have resumed work, the Association will continue to negotiate with the government over their conditions of service.

"First we took a bold decision. Now, we have also taken another bold decision...We thought about everything. People said a lot of things and today, we have thought about all of it. We will continue to negotiate with the government."
